A YOUNG INSPIRATION
At TM Letlhake Secondary School in Westonaria, the story of one learner has captured the hearts of her peers, teachers, and the wider community.
The recently crowned Miss TM Letlhake, 14-year-old Qhama Mxhonywa, is not only celebrated for her beauty and grace, but also for her determination to rise above challenges that would have broken the spirit of many, and she stood head and shoulders.
Raised by a blind mother Bongiswa Mxhonywa at Borwa Extention 3, Simunye, Westonaria, she has embraced responsibility and resilience as her daily companions.
And when South Africa’s fastest growing and resilient fibre technology company Net Nine Nine stepped in to donate a full school uniform to her, it was more than just an act of kindness – it was a recognition of her strength and potential.
A CROWN OF COURAGE!
The Miss TM Letlhake crown is not merely a title to her – it is a platform, and she’s embracing it by throwing a strong message to her peers.
She has dedicated herself to being an advocate of Teens Against Pregnancy, using her voice to inspire her schoolmates to remain focused on their studies and avoid early parenthood.
For her, the message is deeply personal: “Despite being raised by a blind mother, I am not taking advantage of the situation. I want to prove that no matter where you come from or what challenges you face, you can achieve greatness.”
Her words echoed far across the school hall and grounds during the uniform handover, leaving many in attendance visibly moved, including Principal Vuyokazi Langeni.
For her peers, she has become more than just Miss TM Letlhake – she is a living example of discipline, dignity, and hope, and a “pillar of a family” according to her mom.
A HARD JOURNEY.
Her journey has not been an easy one, growing up in a household led by a blind mother, she learned early on that strength is not measured by what you lack but by how much you give.
As part of the four children (three girls and a son), she has become the family’s anchor, balancing her studies with household responsibilities.
Her mother, who attended the handover, expressed her pride with words that resonated deeply.
“My daughter is a go-getter. She has been the pillar of this family of four children. Even though I cannot see her with my eyes, I feel her achievements with my heart. She is proof that adversity can create greatness,” she said with a Net Nine Nine shirt hanging over her left shoulder.
The same message was shared by the principal who believes they’ve caught the right fish to steer the river: “Since I was principal of this school, I’ve never had a pregnant learner. Maybe, just maybe, it is programs such as that one pushed by Miss TM Letlhake about the dangers of falling pregnant at school. As a school, we are proud of her, as well as those in the learner representative council who have been working with her.”
Those in attendance, including teachers and community members, could not help but applaud the mother’s strength and the daughter’s unwavering commitment to her family.
A BEAUTY WITH PURPOSE!
For many, a school uniform may seem like an ordinary necessity, but for this young learner, receiving a brand-new full set from Net Nine Nine carried a deeper meaning.
It was a reminder that she was seen, valued, and supported.
It meant stepping into the classroom with renewed confidence and dignity, without the worry of being different from her peers.
“I am grateful to Net Nine Nine for buying this uniform for me. It may look small to others, but to me and my family, it is a big gift. It gives me pride to wear it and strength to keep going,” she said, smiling through tears of gratitude.
Net Nine Nine’s gesture did not happen in isolation, the company has built a strong and meaningful relationship with TM Letlhake Secondary School.
Just last month, they donated 15 brand new laptops to the educators, equipping teachers with vital tools for modern learning and they also connected the school with high-speed fibre internet – completely free of charge, ensuring learners and educators are not left behind in a world driven by technology.
The uniform handover was more than a ceremony, it became a celebration of resilience, love, and the power of community.
By extending their generosity to an individual learner, Net Nine Nine showed that their commitment goes beyond infrastructure and devices, it is also about changing lives, one story at a time.
